WarrenBOOTHWarren Booth of New Line, Bacup passed away suddenly at home on Tuesday 19th August aged 78.

Born in Oldham in 1947, he lived in Chadderton during his childhood years and attended St Matthew's Primary School, North Chadderton Secondary School and also spent a year at Horsley's Green Boarding School in Buckinghamshire which was owned by Lancashire County Council.

On leaving school in 1962 his first employment was as a monumental stonemason at George Taylor in Chadderton for 3 years before going on to work as a self employed bricklayer. For several years in the late 1960's and early 1970's he worked as a house builder with his father under the company name James Booth and Son and it was during this time that they built the Warren Drive housing estate at Britannia in Bacup which was named after him. After his father retired he continued to work mainly in the house building sector for many firms over the years until his retirement in 2012 but would also frequently undertake work as a stonemason and his craftsmanship and professionalism was always highly regarded.

He married his late wife Susan in 1968, relocating to Britannia, Bacup in 1969 before moving to the house he and his father built at New Line, Bacup in early 1973 where he would stay for the rest of his life. They enjoyed many trips abroad and around the UK over the years including holidays to France, Italy, the Canary Islands and Crete.

Devoted husband to Susan who sadly passed away in 2023, he was a much loved dad to his son Colin and partner Tammy, daughter Wendy and son in law Chris, loving granddad to Andrew, Halle, Sara-Jane, Sam, William, Jacob and doting great granddad to Blakely.

In his youth he played Rugby League for Oldham Werneth and for a period in the late 1970's was a member of the darts team for the Royal Oak in Bacup. He was an avid reader and interested in a wide range of subjects including British history, nature, science and astronomy. He was an amateur radio enthusiast and was also part of the CB radio community during its heyday in the 1980's. He enjoyed conversing with people on many different subjects and would frequently reminisce about his working life and all the places he had worked at over the years.

He met and made friends with many people over his lifetime and will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Funeral will be at Rochdale Crematorium on Thursday 11th September at 1.20pm followed by refreshments at The Royal Toby.
